Germany see off North Korea in women's W.Cup warm-up
Defending champions Germany began their preparations for next month's women's World Cup in earnest on Saturday with a 2-0 friendly win over North Korea as they get ready to host the event.
Having won the last two World Cups, Germany are bidding to win their third straight title and open their defence at Berlin's Olympic Stadium against Canada on June 26.
After Germany slaughtered future world cup opponents Nigeria 8-0 last November in Leverkusen, this was a more subdued run out for the national side in their first game of 2011.
Some solid defending from North Korea frustrated the hosts until Jong Pok-Sim fouled Germany captain Birgit Prinz and Hamburg midfielder Kim Kulig fired home the penalty on 59 minutes at Audi-Sportpark in Ingolstadt, south Germany.
Having taken the lead, the hosts then relaxed and made sure of victory when midfielder Celia Okoyino da Mbabi got the better of the North Korea defence and fired home on 85 minutes to score Germany's second.
"I'm totally satisfied," said Germany coach Silvia Neid.
"We have had some tough training camps and you could see some tiredness in a few heads.
"We did well up front and the defence kept their discipline."
